West Midlands Mayor energised by “clean energy revolution” powered by Voltempo

Voltempo was delighted to recently host the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, who travelled to Tyseley Energy Park in Birmingham. To see first-hand how local innovation at the Voltempo factory is driving the region’s green industrial growth.

Voltempo recently began series production of its British-built HyperCharger, an advanced megawatt charging system (MCS) designed for electric trucks. The technology is a cornerstone of the UK’s transition to zero-emission freight and part of the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium – the £200m government-backed Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme (ZEHID) led by Voltempo and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK.

During his visit, the Mayor met with Voltempo’s leadership team and employees to learn more about the company’s rapid expansion at Tyseley Energy Park – growing from just three staff to over fifty in under two years. This growth represents a major investment in the city and the creation of highly skilled green jobs supporting the UK’s clean energy transition.

The Voltempo HyperCharger has been designed from the ground up for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), capable of delivering over one megawatt of power and dynamically distributing energy to multiple vehicles simultaneously. With “halo” cable management system and plug-and-charge simplicity, it represents a new benchmark in smart, sustainable charging technology.

Paul Jordan, Voltempo’s Chief Commercial Officer, commented: “Having the Mayor visit our facility is a great endorsement of what we’re achieving here in Birmingham. The HyperCharger is not just a world-leading piece of technology – it’s a symbol of how British engineering, innovation and investment are coming together to create the green jobs of the future and accelerate the UK’s journey to net zero.”

Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “Innovative, green industries are central to my Growth Plan and will play a key role in creating 100,000 new, well-paid jobs across our region.

“I’m committed to making the West Midlands the perfect place to build and grow an innovative business – we already have the skilled workforce, the world-class universities and the can-do attitude needed to be a leader in green technology.

“Voltempo’s success shows how combining public finance with private innovation will deliver the clean energy revolution that will propel us to net zero.”
